Home Battery Backup Systems in Forest Hill

We install home battery systems that pick up your essential circuits the moment grid power drops, with no fuel and no engine noise. We size the battery from what your home actually draws, mount it where heat won't shorten its life, and keep your floors and yard protected while we work.

What a Battery Backup System Does

A home battery stores electricity and hands it back when the utility goes down. The system has three main parts. The battery modules, usually lithium iron phosphate cells, hold the energy. An inverter turns stored DC into the 120/240-volt AC your outlets use. A gateway or transfer device disconnects your home from the grid during an outage, so the battery never feeds power back onto utility lines where a lineworker could be hurt.

Most homes don't back up everything. We usually move the circuits that matter, such as the refrigerator, lights, internet, garage door, a few outlets and sometimes the furnace blower, into a dedicated backup subpanel. A battery can run that smaller load for many hours, where a whole house with central air running would drain it quickly.

If you'd rather have a fuel-powered unit that runs for days, our generator installation page explains that option. Some homeowners use both.

What the Installation Includes

  1. 01

    Load measurement and sizing

We list the circuits you want covered and work out two numbers: continuous power in kilowatts and storage in kilowatt-hours. Both matter. A battery with enough storage but too small an inverter will still trip when a well pump or AC compressor starts.

  2. 02

    Backup subpanel

We install a critical-loads subpanel and move your chosen branch circuits into it, labeled so you can see what stays on during an outage.

  3. 03

    Mounting and placement

Batteries go on a garage wall or an exterior wall on a proper bracket, with the clearances the manufacturer requires. Lithium cells age faster in sustained heat, so we steer away from west-facing walls that bake through a Texas summer afternoon.

  4. 04

    Transfer equipment and wiring

We set the gateway or automatic transfer switch, run conduit and conductors sized for the inverter's output, and bond and ground the system to code.

  5. 05

    Permit, inspection and commissioning

We pull the permit, coordinate with the utility where the job calls for it, and meet the inspector. Then we run a live outage test with you watching.

When Stored Power Is the Right Fit

  • Storms cut your power a few times a year

If each outage costs you a fridge of groceries, a missed work call or a night's sleep, a battery carries you through those hours without anyone flipping a switch.

  • Someone in your home relies on powered medical equipment

Oxygen concentrators and CPAP machines need steady power. A battery switches over fast enough that most devices keep running without a reset.

  • A generator isn't practical for you

HOA rules, a narrow side yard or a preference for keeping no gasoline or propane on the property can make an engine-driven unit a poor match. A battery makes no noise and gives off no exhaust, so it can mount right on the house.

  • You work from home

Keeping a modem, router, laptop and a few lights on through a four-hour outage is a small load a modest battery handles easily.

  • Your panel is already full

No open breaker slots or an aging main panel doesn't rule out a battery, but it does change the plan. We check it first and tell you if a panel upgrade belongs in the scope.

How the Job Runs

  1. 1

    Service visit and site check

We open your main panel, note its rating and condition, look at possible mounting walls, and talk through which circuits you can't do without. You get a written scope that lists the equipment, the circuits being moved and the permit steps.

  2. 2

    Permit and equipment

We file the permit with your local jurisdiction and order the battery, inverter and transfer gear. We give you an install date and tell you roughly how long the power will be off.

  3. 3

    Install day

We lay drop cloths and runners from the door to the panel and set mats on the lawn or beds where we dig or run conduit outside. Power is shut off only for the subpanel and transfer tie-in, and we tell you before it goes off and when it's back.

  4. 4

    Inspection and live test

After the inspection we flip the main breaker to simulate an outage, confirm each backed-up circuit stays live, and show you the app or display. Before we leave, we sweep up drill dust and wire clippings.

What Sets the Price of a Battery System

The hardware is a big share of any battery job, so two similar houses can end up far apart in price. After the service visit you get a written, line-item estimate that separates equipment, labor and permit costs. Four things move that number the most.

Storage capacity
More kilowatt-hours means more battery modules. Backing up a fridge and lights takes far less storage than keeping central air running.
Inverter output and motor loads
Large motors draw a surge when they start. Covering an AC compressor or well pump may mean a larger inverter or adding a soft-start kit to the motor.
Panel condition
A main panel with room and a sound bus is straightforward. A full or outdated panel may need work before the battery can tie in.
Distance and mounting
A long conduit run between the battery and the panel, trenching outside, or a wall that needs a backer board all add labor and material.

Before You Buy a Home Battery

How many hours of backup will I actually get?

That comes down to what's plugged in and running. One battery carrying a refrigerator, lights, internet and a handful of outlets can often get you from evening to morning. Put central air on it and the hours shrink fast. We work out a runtime from your own circuit loads instead of quoting a brochure number.

Can a battery run my air conditioner?

Sometimes. The inverter has to handle the compressor's starting surge, and the battery needs enough storage to keep it cycling. Many homes need a larger system or a soft-start device on the compressor. We'll tell you plainly whether it's realistic for your setup.

Will the power flicker when it switches over?

Most systems transfer in a fraction of a second. Lights may blink once, and digital clocks on some appliances may reset. Computers and medical devices generally keep running, though we suggest a small UPS for anything that can't tolerate any interruption.

Is a battery better than a generator?

They solve different problems. A battery is silent, automatic and needs no fuel, but it runs out of stored energy. A standby generator runs as long as it has fuel. If your outages last for days, a generator or a combination of both may suit you better.

Does the battery need maintenance?

Very little. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have no fluids to check. Keep the area around the unit clear, apply firmware updates when the app prompts you, and let us know if the system ever reports a fault.
